Parish Education Committee

Meeting Notes: 07/26/07 Thursday @7 pm

Discussion of previous Action Items:

·        Contact previous Sunday School Teachers –

Initial contact by email with very few responses to date; 7^th & 8^th Grade and Senior High Youth have teachers returning as do the 1^st and 3^rd grades. Teachers for other grades have either not responded or have indicated they are unable to teach again this year. Sharon will continue to contact those persons to determine what teaching slots need to be filled with new teachers.

·        The Rally Sunday format was discussed -

This year’s Rally will continue in same fashion. Sharon will be contacting committee members to ask for someone to take the lead in bringing that event (August 26^th) to fruition.

·        Sunday School Curriculum –

As per previous Committee decisions, “Witness” teaching materials for K thru 3^rd grade have been ordered from Augsburg. Teaching materials for 7^th & 8^th grades and the senior high youth are in place as per those teachers. The Committee will supplement with other materials as deemed necessary by the teachers.  

Discussion regarding additional curriculum needs:

·        Review of catalogs and website resources –

The focus was on materials for 2, 3 & 4 year olds and 4^th, 5^th, & 6^th grades that will address the previously stated committee objectives for those age groups. Barb and Sharon selected the “Growing in Christ” materials from Concordia for both groups. 4^th, 5^th and 6^th grades will all begin a more in-depth Bible study format this year and the 2007-2008 year will be New Testament lessons. Teachers of the two, three and four year olds will be using the age appropriate materials developed for early childhood with this program. It appears to be very visual and will focus on bible stories, songs and prayer. These new materials will be ordered this week.
